Excellent post. Great information and it certainly makes sense. relevant blog content = higher conversions. I agree. Blogs do help with traffic. It's also a great way to communicate with your shoppers or potential customers.

Great information and it certainly makes sense. A blog will bring many more people to a website simply to take part in the discussions, etc. I am definitely going to look into this for my website and a new way to bring in traffic.

Excellent post. I second what Lars said... Creating useful, relevant blog content provides another benefit: higher conversions because prospects are pre-sold on your expertise and product knowledge.

Optimizing your blog for the search engines is very important, but keeping the end user in mind is priority #1.

Awesome post. I'm always looking for ways to gain more traffic to my blogs and other websites. I find that adding value to your blog and writing about something that makes folks want to return almost always helps gain more traffic to my site.

Blogs are considered as one of the most useful tools in online marketing. It helps promote and enhance one's business. And as stated above, it is one good way of introducing your company and your products or merchandise. However, as what Chad have said, the content of the blog is also very essential. If you have good contents on your blog, then you will eventually have more and more visitors. It is nice to know that more and more businesses have decided to go online. Thanks for featuring this. Not only have Paul help introduce "Finnish Gifts", he have also provided some insight for other businesses and the value of this type of online marketing tool.

Thanks for the feedback, Lars. Good points on the content of blogs. Obviously, we took another direction with this one – primarily because of time constraints. Nonetheless, it has been successful in achieving our initial goals of better search engine rankings/exposure and more traffic to our site. However, I would recommend taking the approach both of you suggest in building your blog around useful, quality information that provide value to your visitors – if your time allows for this. We’re currently developing a new site that will include a number of community features for sharing information including a blog that will offer tips and advice. It will be interesting to compare the two approaches.

That's actually a critical comment Lars. Merchants should absolutely focus first on the benefit the blog is providing to readers. In other words, what you say has to be of some value for visitors to continue reading and especially to bookmark or subscribe to your blog. Then, you can work in product mentions unobtrusively in posts, unless the purpose of the post is to review a product.

Being seen as a product expert will lead readers to trust your recommendations and turn to your store for product advice, recommendations, and hopefully purchases. Blogs are a strategic play--slowly building link value and readership to build your brand and eventually contributing to referring highly qualified leads rather than a short-term tactic.

That's a great looking blog. Nice design!

We use our blog similarly, but we also load ours up with gardening tips that are not necessarily product or sales related, to encourage people to subscribe to the blog with their RSS reader.

It takes the pressure off to have 100 days' worth of informational gardening entries scheduled in advance. If we run short on time or don't have anything interesting to say, at least we'll have plenty of good, useful gardening tips for those blog readers.
